The UPPA 2016 opened for submissions on 04th July, 2016. The 5th Edition of the Uganda Press Photo Award annual photo contest was open to all Ugandan photojournalists and photographers 18 years and above to participate by submitting their best images.
The award ceremony took place in October at the Makerere art gallery and was organized by the Foreign Correspondents’ Association of Uganda (FCAU) together with the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung.
This year’s Judges included; South African photojournalist Neo Ntsoma, Carl De Souza AFP’s chief photographer for East Africa, Katrin Peters-Klaphake a curator with extensive experience in photography and photojournalism, Nairobi based Nigerian photojournalist Jide Adeniyi-Jones, FCAU member and renowned photojournalist Frédérick Noy and Makerere University’s lecturer in photography Annette Seba.
The FCAU was set up in 2011 and represents not only foreigners but also Ugandans who report for international news agencies. It is committed to contributing to a lively journalism sector in Uganda, and this photojournalism award forms an important pillar of that commitment.
